Silence of the Lands

Creating a virtual soundscape in the public space

This activity is called data interpretation. In the public space, participants can interact with the collective soundscape resulting from the overlap of all the individual soundscapes produced by SOL contributors. By manipulating and playing with physical objects in an interactive environment, participants are encouraged to collaboratively interpret the collective soundscape and create an idealized, virtual one. Each public session produces an ideal soundscape reflecting the understanding and creativity of the people that participated in the session. These soundscapes are temporary, and later composed in an evolving virtual soundscape by means of purposely designed algorithms.
